Mg + 2H2O-------> H2 + Mg(OH)2
what mass of H gas can be produced by reaction of 1.83g water with as much Mg as needed

Well, you know you have 1.83g water. Convert that to moles. Then, you can use the equation to get the answer via stoichiometry.
