Definition of arynes

Hydrocarbons derived formally from arenes by the abstraction of two hydrogen atoms from adjacent carbon atoms; thus 1,2-didehydroarenes. Arynes are commonly represented with a formal triple bond. Cf. benzynes, dehydroarenes, heteroarynes. E.g. ben
