Default what i think

hello! i really like your site. it could use the origins of the names of the elements maybe. i think alot of people would find it interesting why they are named what they are. its makes them easier to remember sometimes. -- storm9292

Default i'll start with Neon

that's a good one.. why dont we start it here? ill start with Neon, (you can guess why ) and a few more details

Neon (Ne)

Origin : the name is derived from the Greek ‘neos’, meaning new.

History: discovered in London, England by Scottish chemist William Ramsay (1852 - 1916) and English chemist Morris W. Travers in 1898. That is, Ramsay chilled a sample of the atmosphere until it became a liquid, then warmed the liquid and captured the gases as they boiled off. The other gases known were krypton and xenon.

Notable characteristics: the second-lightest noble gas; the fifth most abundant chemical element in the universe by mass; glows reddish-orange in a vacuum discharge tube

Uses: neon lights for advertising signs, helium-neon lasers, in T.V. tubes
