Default SYNTHESIS REACTIONS---HELP

2 gases from the air reacted with the magnesium to create two different products. I need two separte equations that show this.

The reactants included magnesium, nitrogen, and H2O.....and the products were Ammonia, magnesium nitride and magnesium oxide...

The first equation ( i think) is Mg + N2 ------>MgN2 (not balanced)
The second equation ( i think ) is Mg +O2 ----->MgO2 (not balanced)

In order to balance your equations:

The charge of a cation is equal to it's group number (not including transition metals). The charge of an anion is equal to the group number minus 8. In an ionic compound, the charge is 0.

Also it says that one of your reactants is H20 not O2; therefor, you need to show the proper amt of H on both sides.

Does the problem specifically ask for two equations? If not you only need one because one of the products is ammonia, which has hydrogen and nitrogen in it.

Thanks. The problem does ask for two equations and the equation in question is the Mg + O2 ---->MgO2.....i put the O2 there cause I thought the Mg reacted with something in the air after it was heated, but it could possibly be H2 which I had put into the evaporating dish with the Mg.

The equation could either have the H2 or the O2....I am unsure of either.
