Hey, i'm hoping all you experts can help me out with info on air pollution. What do you think is the worst air pollution the earth's got and why. How easy is it to stop polluting the air?

The worst air pollution imho is cigarette smoke. I hate it when I'm walking along and I get a breath of someone else's pollution. I wish the streets could be completely free of this pollution.
Smoking kills more than 5 million people in the world every year. Smoking causes more death and disability than any single disease in the world. (World Health Org) Another big problem in poorer countries is indoor smoke pollution from cooking fires. This pollution causes 1.6 million deaths a year. Carbon dioxide is the biggest problem because its causing global warming. Carbon dioxide in the air turned Venus into somewhere hot enough to melt lead. We need to cut carbon dioxide pollution to stop the same thing happening to earth.

Hmm, I disgree with you heidi because, in scientific terms, global warming is an unproven hypothesis, not a fact. Earth's temperatures are always varying. The temperature variations and rate of temperature variations we're currently seeing are very modest compared with what has happened historically.
Search YouTube for Professor Bob Carter and read Hal Lewis's letter of resignation from the APS. I partly agree with you about cigarette smoking Nanomachine, but the vast majority of deaths are not caused by involuntary breathing of cigarette smoke - it's people deliberately poisoning themselves. I'd say the worst air pollution is taking place in China. The Chinese government shut down Beijing's industry during the Olympics so the athlete's could breathe easily. According to the World Health Organization more than 650,000 people in China die each year from diseases related to air pollution. In addition to the deaths, hundreds of millions of people are living in regular discomfort because of the air quality that's forced upon them. |

Thanks Paul. We'll have to agree to disagree.
I think theres plenty of science backing global warming and its such a worry because if we end up with a runaway greenhouse effect, we end up like Venus and we'll have destroyed the Earth. With that at stake I think it makes sense to cut CO2 emmissions.

Sometimes global warming reminds me of a scene from a movie.
Inspector Clouseau: Does your dog bite? Hotel Receptionist: No Inspector Clouseau says to dog: Nice doggie. The dog bites Inspector Clouseau. Inspector Clouseau, in pain: I thought you said it didn't bite. Hotel Receptionist: That is not my dog. |

we could stop polluting the air if there weren't as many of us. there are so many humanson the planet now, and nearly all of us would like to own cars, computers, well built homes at the right temperature, nice clothes, and the list goes on................... making these things and using them needs materials and energy and this makes air pollution. not polluting the air isn't just hard, it's impossible. our only hope is new, less polluting technologies.
