Default Hybridizations Relationship to Atomic Orbitals.

Hi everyone.

I have recently just started studying about chemistry so my knowledge of it is fairly limited. So you could say that I am a newbie to Chemistry.

So my first question would be the relationship between Hybridization and atomic orbitals.

An example question:

In order to produce sp^3 hybrid orbitals,_______ s atomic orbital(s) and ______ p atomic orbital(s) must be mixed.

I would be grateful if someone could explain the relationship between Hybridization and atomic orbitals. Also if you are going to answer the question above, please leave an explanation of that as well. That way I can better understand this subject.
