Default Cool acid solution.

Hey, i've just made a solution of about 60% HCl (33% strong) and 40% KNO3
When I first mixed it, it got warm, which is strange because when KNO3 dissolves it usually goes cold, not all the KNO3 dissloved. I came back a day later and it was red and when I took the lid off it was fuming this white smoky stuff that smells like NO2. At the bottem of the solutin was some white stuff that was where the KNO3 was when it didn't all dissolve. Now I thought this was HNO3. So I added Cu to see if it reacted. It did but the product produced was green, like CuCl2, not like Cu(NO3)2, so i left it overnight to see if it was because of the NO2 but it stayed green, dark green.

Now if you could tell me what is happening here I would appreciate it.
Is it aqua regia?

Default not quite, but close

2HCl + KNO3 ---> KCl + NO2 + [Cl] + H2O
Then, be careful if you haven't homicidal or suicidal intent
