Default Cavendish's equation

Hi everyone,

Henry Cavendish is famous for having discovered hydrogen. I know that he reacted mercury with an acid to produce hydrogen and a salt. Does anyone know the acid that he used?

Much thanks!

Cavendish produced hydrogen gas in 1766 through the addition of zinc metal to hydrochloric acid.
