Default Mystery of the one way hole

My chemistry teacher wrapped a swatch of cheesecloth over a jar and poured water through the closth and into the jar. Then he turned the jar over and the water didn't escape. He has asked us to solve the mystery of the one way holes. I have thought and searched and I can't come up with anything. Can anyone offer the answer? Thanks.

Well, this is something called "Semipermeable membrane". What your teacher did with the cheesecloth was that she could make a cloth permit water get away only one way, but not the other by applying cheese on that side towards the beaker.

Do more research on "semipermeable membranes".
