Default what is the differrent between deterrent and repellent?

I am reading the articles about the repellent and then I totally confused what is the different between deterrent and repellent?

I am not familiar with the use of these words in an organic chemistry context. In general usage a repellant is something that repel, while a deterrent is something that deters; you can look them up in a dictionary.

Maybe you could give the context that these words were used in?
