Default hhmmm...gunpowder

Hey, my name is Steve. Over the summer I have a summer assignment for a chemistry class I'm taking and the teacher wants us to explain how different substances are chemically bonded. One of the substances I was going to trying to explain was gunpowder because you had to give examples in movies or books. (stupid assignment but whatever...) So anyway, when saltpeter (potassium nitrate or sodium nitrate), sulphur, and charcoal are ground up together to make gunpowder are there any chemical bonds or what not and if there are what are they? I'm completly new to the whole idea of chemistry and have no clue where to start. I was reading about ionic bonding, covalent bonding, and all these other forms of chemical bonding wand was beginning to get lost. Sorry for my ignorance.

Thanks,

Steve

P.S. I probably wont be back here untill next Thursday when I get home from a trip so if you have any questions for me they will be answered then.
