As far as I know, there's no hard and fast rule for what solvent system to use. On a general level though, these are things to keep in mind:

Amides are pretty polar molecules. TLC is generally coated with a polar stationary phase. You'll want something kinda polar but not extremely polar I'd guess...maybe an ether or ester?
