Scent carriers

Hello,

I hope that you chaps will be able to guide me on this small query. The niggling question that I have is this; Apart from alcohol, what element is the best carrier of scent?

I am sure you guys will rise to the challenge.[:I]

If you are talking about perfumes, then it's carboxylic acids, i guess.
