formula mass

does anybody know the definition for formula mass?.....i am thinking that is the same as formula unit or molar mass.

thanks in advance........i will truely appreciate any help possible.

I believe it's the mass of one formula unit. For example, the formula mass of NaCl is the mass of Na plus the mass of Cl. NaCl doesn't form molecules so "molecular mass" is not appropriate.
