1g NaOH dissolved - how much heat should be released?
Hi. I need to find out the theoretical yield of heat when 1g of NaOH(s) is dissolved.
I know that the equation would be NaOH -> Na + OH + xkJ but I don't have x, so I can't solve for heat. Does anyone know how much heat should be released, or how I could obtain this information? |
dissolve some NaOH in a known volume of water in a bomb calorimeter and you can then calculate the heat released/absorbed per mol NaOH dissolved.

I think I found the answer in my CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. I looked in the index for "enthalpy of solution". It seems to be -44.51 kJ/mol; negative because this much energy is released from the system, so the system is in a lower energy state.
