A hydrocarbon is a molecule made up of hydrogens and carbons. The simplest is methane, CH4. There are different kinds. Ketanes all have single bonds(like methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, etc.), ketones have at least 1 double C-C bond, and Ketynes have at least 1 triple Carbon-Carbon bond.

Your nomenclature is incorrect. It's alkanes, alkenes and alkynes.

lol, indeed, even i was confused, and I am a third yr chem major at university.

Hydrocarbons are compounds which only contain carbon and hydrogen. As mentioned:

Alkanes: all single bonds
Alkenes: contain double bonds
Alkynes: contain triple bonds between atoms
