Question?

Hi everyone.
Just a quick question/teaser: can anyone tell me the name of an organic substance which is also corrosive and has eight letters and one number in it?

Yep weird question I know :? , but if anyone can help that would be really great! :)

I know that acid would be the only subtances that corrosive and also organic. Except chunks of sodium, corrosive but not organic.

That's a tough one. I've been thinking about it off and on and I don't know how to approach it.

It could be an acid, and it could be a base. Maybe it's a strong oxidizing or reducing reagent. I don't know...

I wonder what the exact definition of "corrosive" is?

According to dictionary.com, it looks like a corrosive substance is any chemical substance that chemically destroys or eats away another substance.

It's very corrosive; and I would agree with your definition. It's also a homologous series. It's so confusing it could be anything!

eta: apparently its extremely easy, its like something you would over look??

What is it corrosive towards? glass, steel, hands, plastic etc.

3. The only chemicals (which are not "corrosive") that I can think of would be something like 1-pentanol, 2-butanone (MEK) etc.
